PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY POLICY
At Sterling Insurance Brokers Sdn Bhd, we value your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal data you share with us. We recognise that we have responsibility in managing your personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act (“PDPA”).

Due to the nature of business activities that we carry out, we will be required to collect, use, process and pass on all relevant information collected through all legal means to all relevant parties in order provide professional advice, assistance and/or quotation for any purchase/ renewal/ quotation/ assistance/ claim purposes. Other purposes include marketing and promotional activities; and carrying out market research and analysis and satisfaction surveys.

All references made to “Sterling” “we” and “our” means Sterling Insurance Broker Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated under the laws of Malaysia and having its business at No 27-2, The Boulevard, Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, 59200 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.


The Personal Information We Collect About You

When you submit a proposal or a query to Sterling we may ask you to submit personal information such as your full name, NRIC number, contact details such as e-mail address, postal address, telephone number, gender, occupation and any other information provided such as the details of your account, the type of products and/or services subscribed. You are under no obligation to provide such information. However, if you should choose to withhold requested information, we may not be able to respond to you or provide certain services.

Please note that when you provide your instruction to seek quotation for an insurance product or bind coverage or pay premium in respect of your insurance placement you shall be deemed to have acknowledged and agreed to be bound by the terms of our Privacy and Data Protection Policy.


How is the information used?

We may use your personal data for purposes which include the following:
  • to better understand your current and future products and services needs and your coverage situation;
  • to assess financial, insurance gaps and insurance risks;
  • carry out research on customer demographics, interests and behaviour
  • to better manage our business and your relationship with us;
  • to update, consolidate and improve the accuracy of our records;
  • to assess your application/request for our products and services;
  • to verify your financial standing through credit reference/reporting checks;
  • to provide you with information on our and third party products, services and offers which may be of interest to you;
  • to improve our products and services and to develop new products and services;
  • for audit, compliance and risk management purposes;
  • to respond to your enquiries and complaints and to generally resolve disputes;
  • to produce data, reports and statistics;
  • to conduct research for analytical purposes including but not limited to data mining and analysis of your transactions with us;
  • to conduct anti-money laundering checks; for crime detection, prevention and prosecution; comply with any sanction requirements; and/or
  • for any other purpose that is required or permitted by any law, regulations, guidelines and/or relevant regulatory authorities.


How and where is the information shared?

Sterling will treat all information we hold about you as private and confidential, at all times. It will be necessary, however, for us to disclose information that you consider confidential to (re)insurers or other parties, when acting on your behalf, where we reasonably consider such information to be material to the risks being covered.

Sterling may disclose aggregate statistics about site visitors and customers in order to describe services to prospective partners, advertisers and other reputable third parties and for other lawful purposes, but these statistics will include no personally-identifying information.

Sterling will only disclose personal information to companies within its group of companies, from time to time, when you have opted into this service. Sterling may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or if it believes that such action is necessary to protect and defend the rights, property or personal safety of Sterling, the site or its visitors. This site contains links to other sites. Sterling is not responsible for the privacy policies or the content of such other sites.


Security and Retention of Your Personal Information

Sterling will retain your personal data in compliance with this Privacy and Data Protection Policy and/or the terms and conditions of your agreement with Sterling for the duration of your relationship with us, for such period as may be necessary to protect the interests of Sterling and/or its customers as may be deemed necessary, where otherwise required by the law and/or where required by Sterling’s relevant policies.

Sterling places great importance on the security of all personally identifiable information associated with our customers. We have security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of customer data under our control. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorised personnel have access to user information. While we cannot ensure or guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration of data will not occur, we use our best efforts to prevent this.

Under Personal Data Protection Act 2010, you may have right of access to some or all of the information we hold about you, or to have inaccurate information corrected. If you wish to exercise either of these rights, please contact us in writing. You agree that we may hold and process by computer or otherwise any information we hold about you in order to provide our services to you.

We may operate a paperless office system and/or hold documents on your behalf only in electronic or digitized format. In these circumstances, we may operate a policy of destroying any hard copy documents that come into our possession for the purposes of providing our services to you. Where this is the case, you recognize that we may only ever be able to provide to you electronic or digitized versions of any documents that we hold on your behalf. You accept that to the extent that you wish us to destroy or expunge from our systems any electronic or digitized versions of documents held on your behalf, we will not be able to destroy such documents that have become incorporated onto our hard drives or any other system onto which data is stored only for the purposes of disaster recovery.
